HOYA Vision Care Australia & New Zealand Launches New Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial Coating for Spectacle Lenses Innovative lens coating proven to reduce bacterial growth by 99.9%

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 1 OCTOBER 2021 - HOYA Vision Care Australia & New Zealand, today introduced a new Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial lens coating which is proven to reduce bacterial growth on the surface of a lens by 99.9%. The innovative Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial lens coating can help reduce the chance of eye infections while meeting the increased global demand by consumers for safer, more hygienic products brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial coating, applied to both the front and the back of the lens surface, contains silver ions known as AG+ which penetrate bacteria and change the intracellular enzyme within the bacteria, stopping its function. The coating uses Kohkin, an anti-bacterial process that can inhibit bacterial growth for a long period of time, unlike sterilization or disinfection which only temporarily kill and eliminate bacteria.

“When you touch surfaces, germs can end up on your lenses and potentially in your eyes which is why we developed the Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial coating,” said Griff Altmann, CTO, HOYA Vision Care. “HOYA Vision saw the need by patients and Eye Care Professionals for increased anti-bacterial related products to provide an extra layer of confidence for spectacle lens wearers.”

HOYA’s Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial lens coating is certified for both its quality and effectiveness by ISO and The Society of International Sustaining Growth for Antimicrobial Articles (SIAA) with HOYA being the first eyeglass lens manufacturer to be registered with SIAA.

“The launch of HOYA’s new anti-bacterial lens is testament to HOYA Vision Care’s mission to support and champion Eye Care Professionals and provide innovative, evolving products for their patients,” said Craig Chick, Managing Director, HOYA Vision Care ANZ.

“Importantly, the launch of Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial coating in turn creates a ‘Full Control’ 4-in-1 combination that will provide Australians and New Zealanders with the ultimate in eye protection,” said Ulli Hentschel, National Training & Development Manager, HOYA Vision Care ANZ.

“Full 1 Based on BOKEN quality evaluation institute’s anti-bacterial activity value test results (Staphylococcus aureus and E.Coli) Control is a combination of HOYA's four signature lens coatings, namely, Diamond Finish, UV Control, BlueControl and new Hi-Vision Anti-Bacterial. The benefits of the ‘Full Control’ 4-in-1 combination directly address 4 current eye care consumer concerns: hygiene, digital eye strain, UV protection and lens scratch resistance.

This combination is a first-of-its-kind solution for Australian and New Zealand glasses wearers.” # # # About HOYA Vision Care For over 60 years, HOYA Vision Care has been a passionate global leader in optical technology innovation.
